Moby's Official website!
A great site with lots of Moby stuff, including a complete discography!

As most of you know, my favorite musician is Moby.
On July 24, 2001, I went to Area:One with a friend, and the shows were awesome!
Moby's especially! Even more awesome, we got to MEET him!
Many thanks to Diane who went far out of her way to make this possible for us!

Here I am with the one...the only...
Moby the Goofball!
Geez what a face!

Here I am with Diane, what a sweetie! And what a lovely voice she has!

The Bass Goddess, Greta!
She has a kewl website too! Check it out!

*sigh* They're so awesome, and it was great to meet them all! And I got autographs to further prove to myself I did get to meet them. I didn't get a pic with Scott, the drummer, but he deserves a mention here too.

My Area:One Experience
July 24, 2001

My day started off adventurously, as the roads leading to the highway, well, the ramps were all closed off. As I was determined not to let it ruin my day, I finally found a road that had access ramps to the highway, and as I started up the ramp, "Jump" by Van Halen started to play. The trip was smooth, and nearing my exit, I heard Smashing Pumpkins "1979" and almost melted, as surely this would be an awesome day for me, musically! I found the place no problem and stopped at the parking lot gate to prove I was supposed to be there, ticket and all.

Tecknomonk and I managed to arrive AT THE SAME TIME (something "coincidental" about the ramp delays?), she was right behind me! She had recognized the back of my car from my online pic, and we were going to meet at the venue gate. And since someone pulled up beside me calling my name, it had to be her! Nobody else could possibly know my name out here. I sold my extra ticket to a grateful duo of guys who had to leave their ticketless friend behind, so now he had one and could come. The annoucers at the 93.1 booth were really annoying, but we signed up for the drawing contest anyway (which sucked b/c they were very disorganized about it...but oh well). And I bought a white shirt with "MOBY" printed in bold and his neat symbol underneath.

We went to the dance tent, and Rhinocerose was awesome!

After that, we wandered around to look for friends, including Greg...who we couldn't find. And then we went to the backstage entrance to see if we could spot anyone from Moby's crew.

Tecknomonk finally caught sight of RJ, so we went up to him and asked him to take a note to Moby for us (cheesy we know, but hey). He said he would, and then we waited...and waited....

Then we saw Diane! We were so excited when she remembered who Tecknomonk was from October, and she said she'd try to get passes for us!! She said she'd try to meet us at that spot right after Moby's set. But we decided to wait some more and see what happened. I also bought a cap at the nearby booth for a friend and got some water for us b/c it was hot and I was thirsty.

About 15 minutes before Moby's show, Tecknomonk and I decided to split off for our seats since we didn't think anyone from Moby's crew would be roaming around any more. I didn't have the best seat, but it was at least in the pavilion in a fairly nice stadium-type chair. The mist machines started up, and then the lights went off...and everyone cheered. And then it started...Moby was AWESOME! I'm a "tough girl" and don't like to be seen crying, but this time I couldn't help it. As soon as Moby opened up with "Hymn" I had tears streaming down my face! It was SO lovely!! What he played here...
"Hymn"
"Machete"
"Go"
"Porcelain"
"James Bond Theme"
"Honey (AKA Dirty dirty sexy song)"
"Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad"
"Ah-Ah"
"Bring Back My Happiness"
? Rave Anthem ("I Need You" maybe?)
"Natural Blues"
"The Sky Is Broken"
Nirvana guitar intro (either "Come As You Are" or "All Apologies")
"Southside" w/Nelly Furtado
"Bodyrock"
"Feeling So Real"
and the finale of "Thousand". THAT was neat!
And of course, Moby-ish quips in between the songs...what a funny guy! And yes...the beach ball!

So after the show, Diane DID meet with us! We got to hang out in the dressing rooms and party with Moby, Incubus, and everyone...it was SO AWESOME! We got hugs from Moby and Diane and got to talk with a bunch of kewl people...including finally meeting up w/ Greg! And we ate some yummy crisp organic carrots and sipped some caffeine free Coke. The party thinned down some but didn't slow down, dancing to Duran Duran and the Beetlejuice soundtrack. Moby's a kewl dancer! And SO much fun! We then followed Moby and his boom box outside and danced some more on the patio to the Banana Boat song and out to the parking lot. We got to hang out with them until time for them to leave on the bus. And Mad Libs.... We were tempted to go with them to "Go-chica" too, but we had to go home.

WOW!!! No words to describe how awesome this was!!
